Lola and Honey Find a Forever Home

This lovely lady is Lola, she turned up on the doorstep of one of our fosterers about 10 years ago. She was a little skinny, a little dirty, and very hungry. After feeding her for a couple of weeks and asking around the neighborhood about possible owners, the fosterer caught her in a carrier and took her to the vet. While Lola wasn't microchipped she had been spayed – with no ear notch and a friendly disposition towards people in general, it was likely she'd belonged to someone at some point.

We decided to help her belong to a new family who'd love this quirky little lady for the rest of her life.

Lola liked her foster mom and foster sister, but wasn't too thrilled with her foster brother (a very rambunctious Siamese). Well, that's a bit of an understatement. She and her "brother" tried to kill one another on an alarmingly regular basis.

Lola needed a home, and fast.

At the same time, in another town nearby, a cute young orange tabby boy named Honey

was also looking for a home. His background was equally murky. He had appeared in a feral colony whose residents were being trapped, fixed and returned to the colony. Unlike the other cats, he was friendly to people, so he went home with a foster mom. He also liked other cats, although he could be a bit bossy with them. He did not like going to adoption fairs, so he was not always on his best behavior there. Meanwhile, Kari and John were looking to adopt a cat. A single cat. They found us and met Lola and met Honey. And…. couldn’t make up their minds. As we talked about each cat it became clear to us that they were already smitten with both of them. “How would you feel about adopting both of them?” we asked.

“Um, what? Uhhh…..Well. Hmmm.” So they talked about it. And we talked among ourselves too. These were two adult cats who had never met each other. Was this a good idea? We all decided it was so we coached them on introducing the cats to each other. One thing in favor of this arrangement was both of the cats were new to the home so there wasn’t any built-in territory dispute. They kept Honey and Lola apart at first, to let them get used to the sound and smell of each other. Then they introduced them in a controlled way and friendship blossomed!

Once Lola got away from her hated feline foster-brother her personality transformed. She became really friendly and cuddly with people, and she completely took to Honey. As they bonded she would groom him as they snoozed together and they would intently watch the squirrels out the window together. At one point their new mom was studying for her medical boards and they were happy to supervise her studying and follow her around every time she got up from her desk.

These two former-waifs found a home and a family together with their people!
